*A&S Minister (THL Marija, remote report): The outing to the MSV museum was very successful in that a good time was had by those who attended. A few of us went as a small group on the day of the Durer lecture and at least two others I know of went on their own as it suited their schedule better. I will continue to post new opportunities as they become known to me. Also the INKS guild is continuing to meet as scheduled. If anyone has classes they would like to see or offer, or other A&S needs please let me know.
*Knight Marshal (Count Andreas, remote report): Working on getting a couple other folks warranted as marshal to help with running practice. I need to change the practice schedule again, because of work. I am really only available one weekend a month, other days are kind of hit and miss. Might be able to accommodate individuals on an as interested basis. Also a rapier marshal at large now so happy to help in that arena.

*Chamberlain (Dame Hrefna, remote report): The sorting party for January was cancelled due to inclement weather. Until I have some time to see how my new hours are going to play out, there will be no further sorting. As I will have much less weekend time off, I may need to step down from the position in the near future so someone else can step up if they wish.
*Web Minister (Lady Umm Samin, remote report): Will be moving this summer and thus ending term in May, seeking interested parties to train as replacement.
Guild Reports:
INKS Guild (Dame Ursula): Meeting every two weeks. Next meeting Wednesday, February 20th 6-8pm at Ylaire & Angellino’s home. Just finished Midrealm package, currently working on Æthelmearc package, goal to be delivered at Ice Dragon.
Cooks Guild (Lady Arianna): On hiatus due to general life chaos. Hope to restart at some point. Would like to go back to rotating the location of meetings.
Old Business:
24th Night – Jessica presented the group with a bid for 24th Night, discussed moving date to March 9th. We did not have quorum so could not approve, but the group is generally excited about the prospect.
Update on Storage – Storage bill due in March.
Youth Fighting Update – Haven’t been able to hold practice due to weather. Would like to start holding practices on 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month from 1-4pm. Will start on 2/17 at AbleGamers. Everyone welcome to use conference room for projects/socializing during practice.
Shire Day in the Park Discussion – Will be held consistently on the 3rd Sunday of the month (youth practice will coincide with Shire Day in the Park) starting in April. Jessica will contact War Memorial to secure lower section that seemed to be preferred by group. SDITP needs to be held consistently each month regardless of what event is going on, we have enough people who don’t travel or who may be back by then if they do to join us. We need this to keep up momentum. Possibly doing smaller meetings in the winter at Able Gamers (Shire Day in the Lodge). SAVE THE DATES!
Possible Regional Practice/Muster – Discussed possibly having during the June Shire Day in the Park to encourage other groups to join in. Will discuss more next meeting.

Salutations shire folk ! Here are the minutes from our last meeting held 7 November 2018 at Able Games. First order of business was were there enough shire gentles there to have a quorum happy to that yes the call put out by our seneschal Kjartan was answered and we had many smiling faces and some new ones there as well. See Photos. The next item on the agenda was whether to have Siege right after hosting Spring Coronation, and if we were going to submit the bid that Dame Ursula had prepared. It was decided submit the bid and not to do Siege in May assuming we the bid was accepted. A Coronation is a wonderful and fun and its about time we hosted a second one. If bid is accepted the event will be from Friday 5 April to Sunday 7 April 2019, at Camp Frame in Hedgesville WV 25427. Autocrat Ursula of Rouen. The vote was unanimous for Ursula to put the bid in.
Next came the matter of the organization of the storage space and the thing we all detest cleaning and organizing in doing so it was discovered we didn’t have a chamberlain . What is a Chamberlain you may ask the person in charge of all the shires property. Feast gear or fighting loaner gear. Hrefna flew in to the rescue, and is are new chamberlain.
Officers reports were next Drea stated that heavy fighting was alive and well, and is looking for an indoor place hold practice. Christopher offered one of the rooms at Able Games and Drea said he would look at it after the meeting. Heavy fighting practice will be the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month. Christopher stepped up again when a container was needed to store the Shire Tapestry in. Going back in the store room he came back with a Pelican Case that not only will keep the mice out but has a lot of frequent flyer miles on it. The case has been to Europe and Sydney Australia . Historian Katharine gave her report that we made history with a new Chamberlain and she is also chronicler. That was it for the offercers reports. The meeting was adjourned at 8:11PM.
This weekend on 11 November is the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One it is also Veterans Day. Please take a moment to thank our veterans. And remember just how much the world changed after World War One. Monarchs fell in Germany, Austria and Russia to name a few. There was the great Influenza outbreak that spread all over the world. Then pick up a history book get on the internet and look at the period of history that the SCA covers there are so many similarities.

An informal business meeting was held with a larger than average attendance. No minutes were take. There was discussion of the upcoming officer elections, and open positions were listed. There was a lively talk regarding possible new events that the Shire can hold. The main idea was to have something a bit different with the emphasis on activities for youth.
The Apple Butter Demo from last fall was discussed, and the consensus was we will probably do it again. Lady Samin will contact the Ice House to arrange for an informal commitment of their space. Following some more discussion a decision will be made.

1. Shire business meetings change. Last month meeting was held at Elektra’s house, did not really discuss business. Was kind of nice. Consensus was the it would be nice to have alternating months of a formal meeting and a more relaxed, social gathering. February’s meeting will be potluck held at Elektra’s home and the March meeting will be at Hospice.

15. Kingdom 12th Night – Samin/Etain. Date is January 6, 2018. Please come help set up Friday night, 4pm-8pm. Working on a largess basket for taxes. Please contribute apple themed items, if possible. Bera will receive donations and will make the presentation. If you are willing to contribute to the royalty room, please reach out to Ursula. There is a private fundraiser that will be held if you want to contribute.
16. Springtime Promise: The Hand Fasting of Eoghan and Svenja – Hrefna – Date is March 23-25, 2018. Working on archery marshal. Once 12th Night is over, expect to start seeing many messages about this event.

15. Apple Butter Festival Demo – Samin/Jaques. 88% increase to hits to website next day. 6 people filled out interest form. 300 flyers handed out. 8 people in the parade plus the float. Approximately 150 people stopped by. Couple of rattan fighters for part of Saturday, several fencers throughout the day. Large A&S display.
16. Kingdom 12th Night – Samin/Etain. Date is January 6, 2018. Need lots of help with set up on Friday night because we have to pay their staff for every hour we are on site. Also need retainers for the day (see Ursula). Samin discussed planned activities for the day.
17. Springtime Promise: The Hand Fasting of Eoghan and Svenja – Hrefna – Date is March 23-25, 2018. No updates. No needs at this time. Hrefna will be working in the background for now.

2. March 23-25 regional fighter practice and day of tournaments. Hrefna volunteering to organize. The practice will culminate with a wedding at the end of the day of Jeff York. Practice will be at Camp Frame. No cost associated with this practice.

Site is available on Friday and help setting up would be appreciated during the day (site opens at 5pm to populace). Hrefna will announce to shire list what time helpers can come to site once details are finalized. Donations to day board (talk to Arianna) or Traveler’s Repast (talk to Hrefna) would be appreciated.
• Library Demo – Reina/Katharine – Library has contacted us – the “main library” has scheduled their “CON” on the same date. The library asks if we can reschedule – the branch won’t have staff to support the event. Possible early fall date (September or October, pending upon what Bruno does with his potential event).

1. Crown Tourney Update: Have first reservation. Checked in with staff and good progress there. No concerns at this time. Etain is looking for volunteers for Troll- please consider volunteering.
2. 12th Night Report: Several shire members recognized with awards by the Crown. 39 total attendance. Winners of the contests were reported.
3. Library Demo: June 3rd confirmed as date for Library demo.
4. Roundtable Discussion. The seneschal raised several questions as starting points for a general discussion and brainstorming session. This discussion was free form and unstructured. Questions and topics included how to make shire fun again and not keep draining our resources, and where is the shire going? There was discussion of the importance of nurturing our members and focusing of sharing our love and passions with others and not focus on recruitment “just to get the numbers up.” Comments made regarding there previously being a lot more activities together as a shire outside of the SCA domain and there was suggestion to do more of this. Additionally, conversation about the concept of building community and others will be attracted to this. Identified opportunities to create touch-points with the external community so that people know that the SCA exists. There was also talk of the importance of not overextending ourselves in our enthusiasm but to remain aware of how much work and effort each of us personally want to/are able to invest in shire activities. No decisions or actions were taken as a result of this discussion. The seneschal asked each member present to consider reflecting on the content this event and be prepared to continue to the discussion next business meeting.
5. Being that there has been no bid received for Siege of Glengary, motion made to suspend Siege of Glengary for this year. Motion passed by majority. However, Bruno is working on an idea for a possible 1-day event in the Fall. More to come later.
6. Rattan practice to be held at 1pm this Sunday.
7. Hrefna posed that Sylvan Glen was asked about interest in hosting the AEthelmearc A&S champions event on Oct 28. No interest was voiced and so no action was taken. Hrefna will report back this information regarding Sylvan Glen declination.

Shire Day in the Park Planning Meeting, Jan 15, 2017
We had a very productive meeting today planning our shire days in the park for the upcoming spring!
Our first day will be May 21 at 1 pm.
There will be heavy fighting, youth heavy fighting and fencing!
We will also have two classes in a hands on demonstration style — marshmallow catapults for kids and a beaded bracelet class for adults!
We will also be doing our regular potluck grilling.
A full schedule of all the activities will be forthcoming so watch for it!
I want to encourage all shire members to come out and support this activity. Its one day a month — it is a great way to showcase our shire and we hope to be able to grow ourshire through this activity.
As it was during 2016, this activity will be on the third Sunday of each month at War Memorial Park in Martinsburg, WV from 1 pm – 4 pm.
